Tropical North Queensland Weather
People actually describe Cairns, Australia as a tropical paradise with its lush landscapes, gorgeous beaches and crystal clear waters.
After only one visit it is impossible to argue with them. We’ve already discussed Cairns major attractions.
It is the gateway to two of the most precious places on earth and World Heritage listed site;, the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, not to mention its near proximity to the Atherton Tablelands.
We’ve talked about all the fascinating things there are to do in this increasingly popular holiday destination; hike through thick, emerald rainforest, stroll along golden beaches, discover exotic animals, colourful marine life and more.
But, what makes Cairns a tropical paradise?
First, it possesses all the characteristics of a tropical climate, with warm weather that stays above 18˚C all year round.
All the world has four calendar seasons, but when defining seasons by weather, Cairns has only two; dry from April to November with an average temperature of approximately 25˚ C and wet from November to March when the temperature can climb as high as 41˚ C with an average rainfall of 400 mm.
What makes it a paradise is that mere words fail to describe its incredible beauty.
Although the heaviest tourist season is during the more temperate winter months, don’t be frightened away by the wet summer months that locals prefer to call the “green season”.
Most of the rain falls in the evening leaving the daytime hours to pack full of site-seeing and amusement. The adventurous can go diving or snorkeling to get a close-up view of the reef or charge down the Tully River for some extreme white water rafting.
For those who require a little more rest and relaxation, visit a luxurious spa, go shopping on the esplanade or dine in one of the many exquisite eateries in and around Cairns.
The wet season is the perfect time to observe the greenery of the rainforest via the Kuranda Scenic Train or take it in from just metres above the canopy via the Skyrail.
No matter what time of year you visit Cairns guarantees you the time of your life.
No matter what the weather Cairns has sites and activities to impress even the most well-travelled visitor.
And, Cairns is truly a tropical paradise, a tiny slice of heaven where memories are just waiting to be made.
