you can pick up a rental car from the airport when you arrive or there are several car hire companies in the Cairns city.
Parking in Cairns
Parking in Cairns is easy most of the time. However, you do need to watch the time as the parking inspectors will be quite happy to put a ticket on your car if you overstay the time and the tickets are quite expensive. There are signed areas that P3, for example, means that you can park there for 3 hours. There are also areas on Abbott and Lake Street in the middle of the road that are not signed that you can park all day in.
