Day Two Chillagoe Caves Outback tour

Chillagoe lies within a belt of limestone approximately 5 km wide and 45 km long. Travelling 215 km or 3 hours’ drive west of Cairns, heading to the northern end of the Atherton Tablelands and over the Great Dividing Range.

You will embark on a remarkable journey back to a prehistoric time when dinosaurs ruled the earth.

We are stopping at the Mareeba Wetlands for morning tea and a cruise in this magnificent setting seeing the Giant Lotus Lilly up close along with so many different Water Birds.

Travel through the back blocks of this wetland area, viewing Wallabies, Emus and other wildlife.

Along with the agricultural paddocks of this fertile area, I am eventually crossing over the Great Divide and into the Western watershed.

You are now in the Australian Outback.

Travel through historic towns and rolling hills rich in minerals, eventually giving way to towering limestone karsts scattered around Chillagoe Township.

After delving into the history of the copper smelters, it is time for lunch at a unique outback pub.

Before setting off the Chillagoe cave tour, you will start heading back to Cairns.

Scuba diving Information

We are passionate about showing you Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, so please ensure you understand the scuba diving laws.

Queensland, Australia, has some of the strictest scuba diving rules globally and the safest scuba diving record.   We are regulated by the Queensland Government Code of Practice and comply with all regulations, including medical, as is the law.

To avoid disappointment on your day of travel, we strongly recommend that all of our passengers complete our dive medical questionnaire before booking, as some medical conditions, age and/or medications may prevent you from scuba diving.   Our mission is always to provide our passengers with the best Great Barrier Reef experience.

Reef Experience Medical Questionnaire

We are happy to help you with any questions you may have.   Please contact our office on 07 4037 2700 or email us.

Alternatively, you may like to consult your Doctor for a Dive Medical using the Australian Standard Forms ‘AS.4005.1

Flying after Scuba Diving

It would be best if you did not fly or go to altitude for at least 18 hours after a scuba dive for a single no decompression scuba dive.  You should not fly for 24 hours after your last dive for multiple dives.
If Skydiving or Hot Air Ballooning, you must wait 24 hours after your dive.
We recommend waiting a minimum of 24 hours whenever possible.
