Kuranda Train and Skyrail
Travel in style with this Kuranda train and Skyrail departing from Cairns and travelling to Kuranda, the village in the rainforest.
Skyrail Rainforest Cableway
Start the journey to Kuranda with the Cairns Skyrail. Take in the view as you glide above the World Heritage-listed rainforest.
The Skyrail transverses the Kuranda range for 7.5km. Along the way, there are two mid-stations to visit Red Peak and Barron Falls.
Meanwhile, you can follow the rainforest boardwalks to scenic lookouts and join ranger-guided tours. After that, visit the CSIRO Interpretation station.
Don’t forget to check out ‘The Edge’. We suggest you allow about 1 ½ hours for the Skyrail experience.
You will have time to explore Kuranda, ‘the village in the rainforest’. Kuranda Village has been a favourite to visitors since the early 1900s.
In the 1960s, Kuranda became popular because of the climate and lifestyle. Hippies moved into town.
The town was filled with musicians and artists, and the famous Kuranda Markets began during this time.
Today the village features an eclectic mix of shops and market stalls.
Restaurants and cafes featuring bush-tucker and international cuisines are throughout the Village.
Kuranda also features Wildlife parks and local Aboriginal Culture.
While you are in Kuranda, there is an excellent selection of local produce and locally-designed fashion.
Also, keep your eye out for hand-crafted jewellery, leather products, woodwork and gemstones.
Next, take some time to visit some of the local attractions, including Rainforestation and the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary.
Kuranda Scenic Railway
This railway is one of Australia’s most picturesque journeys and is a must-do when visiting North Queensland.
Once onboard, you can sit back and relax n the original refurbished carriages as you make your way back to Cairns through the rainforest.
Afterwards, take the scenic railway journey to Cairns.
In the 1880s, the construction of the Kuranda Railway began. Miners from the west needed transport to ‘civilisation’ Cairns.
This historic construction includes fifteen handmade tunnels and 37 handmade bridges.
Tourists began using the railway to visit Kuranda in the 1930s, and it is still a top-rated tour today.
After you arrive at the Cairns Railway Station, a bus will transfer you back to your accommodation.
Next, head out to the Outer Barrier Reef with Reef Experience.
