Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal
Cairns Cruise Terminal, located on Trinity Inlet, now serves as an events venue. Initially built in 1913 as the No. 3 Wharf Cargo Shed, it played a pivotal role in Cairns’ development as a Port of Entry, declared in 1876 due to Trinity Inlet providing a safe harbour. Private wharves and cargo sheds erected by commercial shipping companies later joined the initial construction of timber public wharves.

Step inside the inviting interior and take a seat amidst the lively ambience of the brewery, where you can watch skilled artisans craft a tantalizing array of handcrafted brews. Whether seeking a cozy corner for an intimate gathering or a spacious setting for a lively celebration, Hemingway’s Brewery offers the perfect spot to unwind and indulge.
History
Following the establishment of the Cairns Harbour Board in 1906, modernisation began with acquiring private wharf facilities and replacing old timber wharves with reinforced concrete structures. No. 3 Wharf was among the first to undergo this transformation in 1912, erecting a new shed. In 1948, a distinctive clock tower was added to the complex.
Recognising its historical significance, the large complex of wharf structures was heritage-listed in 1998. Subsequently, in 2010–11, the Ports Corporation undertook a significant redevelopment of the No. 3 wharf shed. This project involved constructing a new steel superstructure while preserving the original walls. A new, insulated roof structure covers the original corrugated iron and timber trusses.
This award-winning adaptive reuse project also incorporated interpretive panels within the building and enhanced landscaping. Since its opening in 1910, the Cairns Wharf Complex has been instrumental in shaping the vibrant foreshore precinct, laying the foundation for Cairns’ evolution into a premier tourist destination.
