Cod Hole

Unveiling the Dive Itinerary

Your extraordinary journey begins in Cairns every Thursday at noon, setting the stage for seven days of awe-inspiring underwater exploration. Aboard the sleek and spacious ‘Spirit of Freedom,’ you’ll embark on a 240-kilometre voyage through the seldom-visited Ribbon Reefs, leading to the iconic Cod Hole dive site. Throughout your adventure, you’ll have the opportunity for up to 26 dives, including two mesmerising night dives.

The Ribbon Reef Marvel

A kaleidoscope of marine life will greet you as you travel the Ribbon Reefs. Encounter schools of vibrant tropical fish, stunning coral formations, giant clams, anemones, and the renowned family of giant potato cod. The reefs here are alive with colour and teeming with underwater wonders.

Lizard Island Interlude

Lizard Island

On Saturday, your journey takes you to the remote Lizard Island, where you’ll spend the night in the secluded Watson’s Bay. Picture an evening under the stars, relishing a BBQ dinner on the vessel’s top deck. The following morning, you’ll explore Lizard Island while fellow divers join the trip to the Coral Sea e.g., setting the stage for more advanced diving experiences.

Coral Sea: The Abyss Awaits

As you sail towards the Coral Sea, anticipation builds. Osprey Reef, an ancient volcanic atoll 220 kilometres offshore, awaits your exploration. Prepare for walls plunging to 1,000 metres, colossal soft corals, mesmerising shark encounters, and unparalleled visibility. North Horn, at the tip of Osprey Reef, offers the chance for a close encounter shark dive, where you might witness up to 30–40 sharks gracefully gliding by.

Ribbon Reef Farewell

If weather permits, your final day of diving bliss unfolds at Ribbon Reef Number 3, or potentially Bougainville Reef. Overnight, you’ll journey back to Cairns, arriving early on Thursday morning with up to 26 incredible dives to enrich your logbook and a treasure trove of memories from your Spirit of Freedom liveaboard dive expedition.
