About Cairns

The Wet Tropics World Heritage Rainforest and the famous Great Barrier Reef in the Cairns region, but the city of Cairns is also a must-see.

Along the Cairns Esplanade are fantastic cafés, colourful markets, and beautiful beaches nearby. Visitors spend their days exploring this tropical oasis by visiting one of the beautiful islands, the Great Barrier Reef or the stunning rainforest.

There is a range of excellent walks to stunning waterfalls and great waterholes for a refreshing dip.

Cairns area spans a small coastal sliver between the Great Dividing Range and the Coral Sea, covering 1687 km2 of land. It stretches from the Macalister Range (near Ellis Beach) in the north to the Eubenangee Swamp near Mirriwinni in the south.

The area is a part of Australia’s Wet Tropics and is bordered to the west and north by the lush World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics rainforest.

The Coral Sea and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park are east of Cairns. These characteristics elevate the area to the status of a premier tourist destination.

The area’s central city is Cairns, situated in the coastal strip. Subregions to the north and south consist of high-quality agricultural land and ecologically significant regions.

West of Cairns is Atherton Tablelands, and to the North, the Daintree and Wet Tropics rainforests and the outback Savannah region beyond the Great Dividing Range are all accessible from this area, which also serve as a significant entry point.

The central river systems in the area are the Russell, Mulgrave, and Barron Rivers. Cairns Island’s FitzroyGreen, and Frankland are among the offshore Cairns islands in the area.

Cairns is best known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. Look a little bit closer, and you will find a wonderful place to holiday and live.
