For over 30 years, we’ve been hosting small, personal rainforest nocturnal wildlife spotlighting tours in the world’s oldest continuously surviving rainforest near Cairns.
With an impressive success rate, we take our guests to the Atherton Tablelands to observe elusive animals such as the platypus (we have a 90%+ success rate) and rare tree kangaroos in their natural habitat. With our spotlights, we capture the animals as they come alive at night, discovering the nocturnal wonders of the rainforest.
Explore the Cairns Tablelands
Cairns is a major tourist destination known for the Great Barrier Reef, yet relatively few discover the hidden gems of the Cairns Tablelands, also known as the Atherton Tablelands. Offering a shorter drive time than any Daintree rainforest tours, the Tablelands provide more excellent rainforest wildlife spotlighting opportunities, allowing our tours to depart in the early afternoon. As the rainforest comes alive at night, our spotlights enable us to capture the animals in the canopy. This tour is best suited for active people who enjoy walking and are comfortable exploring trails through the forest, often on uneven and muddy ground with medium inclines. We usually cover around 3-4km on foot, spread over at least four sites, making it a thrilling yet accessible adventure for nature lovers.

Tour Description
After being picked up from your hotel (please note there is an extra $150 per booking pick-up fee for hotels in Port Douglas), we embark on our rainforest wildlife spotlighting tour around Cairns. Your guide will introduce you to some of the world’s most unusual animals, including the elusive platypus, tree kangaroos, possums, gliders, flying foxes, bandicoots, echidnas, snakes, and frogs.
We’ll also delve into the tropical rainforest’s history, learning how local Aboriginal people use the vegetation to make tools and remedies for everyday ailments. This enriching experience provides a deep connection to the land and its heritage.
