Travel over 4000km across the Savannah Way from Darwin to Cairns over ten days and nine nights. Visit iconic locations such as Kakadu, Katherine and Undara Lava Tubes to explore the natural wonders and history of the Top End.

Darwin to Kakadu
Following pick up at your Darwin accommodation, pass through Palmerston and Noonamah. Stopping at the crystal clear warm springs of Berry Springs and rapids of Tumbling Waters before moving on to Litchfield National Park. While exploring Litchfield visit Tolmer, Florence and Wangi Falls before settling in Batchelor for the night.
Continuing along the Stuart Highway, stop at Adelaide River Railway Heritage Precinct with restored vehicles and items of rolling stock from the original North Australia Railway on display. Next, move on to Pine Creek, turning off the highway into Kakadu National Park for the next two nights.
Kakadu National Park is filled with spectacular scenery, pristine wetlands, billabongs, birdlife and wildlife, with plenty to explore over the two nights here. During the stay in Kakadu, there is time to visit Jim Jim and Twin Falls, as well as view rock art at Burrungkuy. While in Kakadu, you can also add a 60-minute scenic sunset flight.
Katherine, Mataranka and Borroloola
The day begins with a morning cruise on Yellow Waters Billabong before moving to Cooinda Lodge for lunch. Heading out of the park, the tour moves South to Katherine Gorge and Nitmuluk. Explore the spectacular Gorge on the Nit Nit Dreaming Two Gorge Tour over approximately two hours. After the Gorge tour, move on to Mataranka Homestead for the night. Arriving in the late afternoon, a swim in the Mataranka thermal spring is a relaxing way to end the day.
The following morning, the tour moves on to Limmen National Park to visit the rock formations of Southern Lost City. Borroloola is the stop for the night. The mining and fishing industries support this small town on the McArthur River, 50km from the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Borroloola to Adel’s Grove
Departing Borroloola into the expanse of the Australian Outback, today we cross the border from the Northern Territory into Queensland. The tour moves through Hell’s Gate, viewing the eerie rock formations. Moving onto Adels Grove, home for the next two nights, relax by the lily-covered Lawn Hill Creek. During the stay in Adels Grove, you can hire a canoe or bushwalk and visit the Riversleigh fossil fields.
Adel’s Grove to Normanton
Returning to the main Savannah Way, the tour moves on to Burketown, taking in the huge salt flats of the area. The stop for the night is Normanton, on the Norman River. Steeped in history, Normanton is home to crocodile statue Krys, the largest crocodile ever shot in Australia at 8.63 metres. In Normanton, visit the old train station and ‘Purple Pub’.
Karumba, Undara Lava Tubes and Cairns
Departing Normanton, the tour moves to the coastal township of Karumba on the Gulf of Carpentaria. Further on, the time arrives in Georgetown with an optional stop to view the mineral museum. Travelling past Mount Surprise, the day ends in Undara.
The tour moves through the Kuranda range, starting with pick-up at your Cairns accommodation. This trip through the rainforest boasts stunning views over the city and beyond. A journey through the Atherton Tablelands ends with a visit to Millstream Falls. After lunch at Ravenshoe, we trip to Undara before settling in for the next two nights.
Following a guided tour of the Undara Lava Tubes, travel through the outback and into the rainforest. A visit to Millstream Falls is followed by lunch in Ravenshoe. The day ends with a drop-off to your accommodation in Cairns by moving through the Atherton Tablelands and descending the Kuranda Range.
